Dr. William J. Courville is a leadership educator, coach, and consultant. He has over 30 years experience in business, counseling, leadership development, consulting, and coaching. He has worked with executives in the fields of manufacturing, aerospace, education, financial services, government, health care, hospitality, labor, non-profits, politics, real estate, start-ups, technology, utilities, and venture capital. He received his certificate of Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University and he is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coach Federation.
Courville has extensive managerial and executive experience. He has served as president and COO of a hotel management company, a principal partner of a real estate development company, director of human resources for a health care company, director of operations for an overseas aviation company, director of scheduling and advance operations for the Mayor of Washington DC and special assistant to the Mayor for international business development for the District of Columbia.
Courville currently focuses on executive coaching and leadership development. He designed, developed, and implemented the executive coaching program for directors and officers at Fannie Mae, and coached senior Fannie Mae executives in that program. He served as a strategic thinking partner in the design of the coaching program at the International Finance Corporation (World Bank) and coached IFC executives. Additionally, he has consulted with various organizations on the design, development and implementation of leadership development programs and has been successful in coaching and developing effective and productive leadership teams. He serves as Adjunct Professor and coach for leadership development programs delivered by the National Leadership Institute at University of Maryland University College and the Center for Creative Leadership.
Courville's client list is extensive as the following illustrative list of recent clients indicates. In addition to Fannie Mae and the IFC, he has coached senior executives at Friedman, Billing, Ramsey (FBR); Lockheed Martin; MARS, Inc.; Manor Care; Service Employees International Union; CPCHealth; the National Security Agency; Sunburst Hospitality Corp.; Greenfield/Belser; the FBI; NOAA; the US Department of Energy; the US Navy; the National Association of Independent Schools; and the CEO of the largest micro financing institution in Africa.
He is a qualified administrator of many psychological and personality assessments as well as various widely used 360 multi raters including: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI); FIRO-B; the Conflict Dynamic Profile; CPI 260; the Emotional and Social Competency Inventory (ECI/ESCI); Hogan’s Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI); Benchmarks; and, Profilor among others.
Courville has his PhD from the University of Ottawa (Ontario, Canada). His dissertation, entitled Coach, Therapist, or Spiritual Director, examined the development of contemporary professional coaching and explored the significance of authenticity, meaning, purpose, and values in executive development. In March 2007, he presented on this topic at the American Psychological Association’s annual meeting in Columbia, Md. He holds a M.Ed. in Counseling from Loyola University (New Orleans). He received his BA in philosophy from Loyola University and his BS in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. He also studied at the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, AZ.
