Coaching Model:
My model is a pragmatic blend of inquiry and advocacy focused on achieving results. I begin with an assessment to determine current strengths and development areas for the client in relation to interpersonal skills and leadership behavior. I help the client assess what is not working for him/her or what is getting in the way of what he/she wants to accomplish. I help the client clarify where he or she wants to go and find out what it would take to get him or her there. I offer new possibilities and new distinctions that make action possible. I help clients move out of the past and toward the future.
Coaching Philosophy:
Professional coaching is a hybrid intervention that borrows from therapeutic and spiritual traditions. My coaching philosophy draws upon behavorial psychology, depth psychology, human development, the psychoanalytical theories in psychology of religion, and recent research in neuroscience. It is informed by my own research and experience as a leadership educator and a senior business manager as well as my work with executives from major international organizations and corporations. More explicitly, my philosophy draws primarily from the following sources:
1) Cognitive behavioral psychology which that suggests that it is not the incidents/events we encounter in our lives but rather what we tell ourselves about those events that determine our behavior;
2) Archetypal psychology which holds that as humans we are born perfectly whole, and without interference would naturally grow into our full potential (the acorn becomes an oak);
3) Imago Relationship theory which holds that all humans have a fundamental need to be heard (which is often not met); and that we have acquired adaptive routines during our developmental growth that we resort to whenever we feel we are threatened or challenged (we are stuck in instinctive behaviors);
4) Analytical psychology which suggests man has an unconscious drive for meaning, value and purpose; that breakdowns often serve as catalysts to make the unconscious conscious and provide insights and opportunities.
5) Recent work in the field of neurocience which has begun to establish a biological link between neurological activity in the brain and the development of emotional intelligence (self awareness and self management), social intelligence (relationships), and existential or spiritual intelligence (authenticity, meaning, values, purpose)--all of which are firmly established as critical components of effective leadership.
Testimonial from recent client:
"I think what you do very, very well is provide an honest and fresh perspective. You don’t get wrapped up in the noise and you are able to get right to the heart of the matter, making things more clear and simple. You often expose a difficult action or choice that will really make a difference. You have little interest in moving around the deck chairs, window dressing or other superficial nonsense. This style produced great results for me."
